south dakota doesn't always smell bad. in fact, sometimes it positively smells like lilacs. and when you take the back roads or railroad tracks, the dust gets in your nose and you know its clean.
you take the number twelve out to webster and waubay, the water gets so blue and the wind blows you away. the sky gets bigger than anything i've ever known and it's important to get out of time sometimes.

two nights ago i had a dream my dad was taking photos of me riding stingrays.
i woke up to the sound of a clocking singing "nervous tick, nervous tock"
and i decided that i would drive to canada and sleep in my car in ontario.
i just got as far as watertown, and woke up with my teeth gone
and a big hole forming in my tongue. i threw up all morning.
and i drove home singing "why can't i be younger than you?"
and i drove home singing "why can't you be older than me?"
to me.
